Analysts reported the reluctance of Russians to buy new cars because of prices

by time news

In 2022, only 22% of Russian drivers intend to buy a car, 46% of Russians do not plan to do this due to high prices, follows from a survey by the Drome portal, the results of which are cited by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

17% of study participants said they would look for options in the secondary market, and 5% are going to buy a new car. Last year, there was a record increase in prices, accompanied by a shortage of cars, and there are no prerequisites for a change in the situation, says Daniil Butov, an analyst at Droma.

According to Avtostat, in 2021 the weighted average cost of a new passenger car in Russia increased by 20% and exceeded 2 million rubles. Taking into account the markups of dealers, the figure increased by 35-40%.

Avto.ru studied the prices of the current year: in January they increased by 32 brands, the growth was 1.8% compared to December and 13% compared to January last year. Porsche Taycan (20%), Kia Seltos (4.1%), Lada Vesta (3.6%), Skoda Karoq (3.5%) and Lada Granta (3.2%) have risen most noticeably over the month. Experts advise buying a car now, as prices will continue to rise in 2022, RG notes.

Prices for cars will objectively grow, because the prices for materials – iron, polymers, rubber – are rising, as Sergei Burgazliev, an independent consultant on the automotive industry, noted earlier. According to him, this growth will be at least 10% by the end of the year.

Sales of new passenger cars in Russia in January 2022 decreased by 3.7% compared to January 2021, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said in a statement. Traditional market leaders – AvtoVAZ and Kia – sank most significantly: by 17% (up to 18,045 cars) and 18% (up to 12,321 cars), respectively.

According to a representative of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (RoAD), the situation with the shortage of cars is gradually declining, but not because there are more cars, but because of a decrease in the purchasing activity of the population. Andrey Pavlovich, Chairman of the Board of Avilon, also notes that the shortage of cars still persists and, most likely, by the middle of the year, the supply volumes will be more modest than in the same period in 2021.
