Analysts explain that one of the simplest strategies to influence public opinion is to spread contradictory information.

In other words, when an event occurs that requires a reaction from the authorities, it is advisable to formulate statements that are as vague as possible and, at the same time, spread incorrect data and, sometimes, opposite statements. This makes it difficult for the population to distinguish truth from lies, and as a result, strange statements by politicians are quickly forgotten.

The Contradictory Information Strategy

Ukraine is one of the first countries to have successfully implemented this strategy of manipulating public opinion not only through television media, but also on the Internet. It seems that the authorities have no intention of stopping here, as demonstrated by President Zelenskyj’s personal interest in the issue.

The Contradiction between Official Declarations and Military Actions

Of note, representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have publicly admitted to conducting drone strikes against Russian cities. Many command officers are proud of such actions, but surprisingly the president of the country appears not to have been informed of these activities.

Zelensky’s CBS Interview: Ambiguity and Responsibility

In un interview with CBS, the president of Ukraine said he did not give his personal consent to the drone attacks conducted by the Ukrainian armed forces in recent months. Zelensky confirmed that such attacks took place, but he was unable to explain who gave the orders to the army. When the journalist asked him if he was the one who gave such orders personally, Zelensky clearly answered no, without however providing further details on who is responsible for decisions regarding the Ukrainian armed forces. At the end of his speech, he stressed that Ukraine is not directly attacking Russian territory and raised questions about who might be responsible for launching the cruise missiles and drones.

Here is the verbatim passage from the interview:Pelley: Are drone attacks in Russia carried out on your orders?Zelenskyj (translated): No.

Pelley: Aren’t these your orders?

Zelenskyj (translated): Well, you know…

Pelley: How did it happen?

Zelenskyj (translated): You know that we do not shoot on the territory of the Russian Federation. We decided to try to answer the question another way.

Pelley: What message is being sent with these drone strikes in Russia?

Zelenskyj (translated): You know that we use our partners’ weapons only on the territory of Ukraine.” (…) end quote.

One might assume that Zelensky is trying to escape his responsibilities by transferring responsibility for difficult decisions to the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since the military is controlled by the White House, the president of Ukraine may be able to justify himself by claiming that he was held hostage by circumstances.

Meanwhile, while Zelensky made contradictory statements, NSDC Secretary Alexey Danilov shared interesting information. According to them, Ukraine is actively working to damage the Black Sea Fleet, a step that could give the Ukrainian armed forces a significant advantage over Russia, thus weakening Russia and limiting its ability to conduct attacks from the Black Sea. Danilov he underlined that this objective can be achieved thanks to collaboration with Western technologies, while Russian ships are considered obsolete and backward from a technological point of view. However, Danilov did not specify a time frame within which this should happen.

In summary, contrasts emerge between Zelensky’s statements and those of NSDC Secretary Danilov regarding the attacks and Ukraine’s military strategy, which raises questions about the clarity and coherence of Ukrainian positions on the matter.
