Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Group, have been nominated by the Central Government as Part-time Official Directors on the Reserve Bank’s Central Board of Directors.
Apart from these two, Pankaj Patel, President of Zaidas Life Sciences, and Ravindra Tolka, a former professor at the Indian Institute of Ahmedabad, have also been appointed.
Tolka was already a member of the Reserve Bank’s six-member Monetary Policy Committee. These 4 will continue in this position for the next 4 years. The Reserve Bank Board members will decide the interest rate and will not interfere in the Monetary Policy Committee but will provide advice and broad nuances to the Reserve Bank.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Anand Gopal Mahindra, Venu Srinivasan, Pankaj Ramanbai and Ravindra Tolakia as non-partisan directors.
The RBI Board has a total of 11 members. When these 4 people are added it will rise to 15 people. Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran is also a member. The term of four members expires next month. The tenure of S Kurumurthy, Chhattisgarh Maratha ends in August and the tenure of Revathi Iyer and Sachin Chaturvedi ends in September.
According to the Reserve Bank Act, the Governor of the Reserve may have up to 21 Board members, including 4 sub-covers. It may also include two government officials, the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and the Secretary of State for Finance.
