St‌vanger (Norway): Indian legend and former world champion Viswanathan Anand has emerged victorious in the big fight at the Norwegian Chess Championship.

Anand knocked out world number one and current world champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway. The Indian retained the number one position in points. The fifth round of the classical section ended in a sudden death (Amagedon).

This is the second time Anand has beaten Carlson. The fifth-round match ended in a draw after 40 moves, with Sudden Death coming in as a tie-breaker. 52-year-old Anand has come out with moves reminiscent of the golden age. After 50 moves, Carlson surrendered. Anand had earlier beaten Carlson in the Bliss category in the same category as the previous one. With four rounds to go, Anand is leading with 10 points. Anand started with a hat trick victory in the social section. In the first three rounds, Anand defeated Maxim Vacier Lagrave of France, Vaseline Topalov of Bulgaria and Hao Wang of China. He lost to Wesley Soy of the U.S. in the fourth round. In the fifth round, Anand defeated Magson and returned to winning ways.
