Criminal cases according to six articles are being conducted in relation to Svetlana Tsikhanovskaya’s adviser on constitutional reform and inter-parliamentary cooperation Anatoly Lyabedzka.

The politician told “Pozhir” that it is about:

art. 356 (“Treason to the state”), Part 1, Art. 357 (“Conspiracy or other actions committed with the aim of seizing or retaining state power in an unconstitutional way”), Part 3 of Art. 361 (“Calls for restrictive measures (sanctions), other actions aimed at harming the national security of Belarus”), part 1–3 of Art. 3611 (“Creation of an extremist formation or participation in it”), Part 2, Art. 3612 (“Financing of extremist activities, repeatedly, or by a group of persons on a prior conspiracy, or by an official using his official powers”), Art. 3614 (“Facilitation of extremist activities”) of the Criminal Code.

On his Facebook page, Lyabedzka wrote that he received “partial access” to information about the criminal cases opened against him:

“If we take the upper bar, which is the term of punishment stipulated by each article, then it turns out… 77 years. In practice, this will not happen, but the idea of the appetites and desires of non-prosecutors, non-investigators is complete, he noted. – What can I say?! The ideological and blood heirs of the Enkavedists from the 1930s raised the coffins of the past and are marching in today’s Belarus. Waving a carte blanche for permissiveness and impunity in front of millions of Belarusians.”

“This arbitrariness will end, there is no doubt. But the pain of losses will be palpable, and the cost will be high. And as for the legal side of these toxic cases, in any court of any European country, I would cut all these pseudo-prosecutors, pseudo-investigators and fake judges to the bottom with the subsequent prohibition to engage in professional activities,” added the politician.

Lyabedzka reported on criminal prosecution back in January 2022. He is abroad.

On August 24 of this year, the Minsk City Court sentenced the politician’s son, Artyom Lyabedzko, to 3.5 years in prison, who was accused of “financing the activities of an extremist organization” (old version of Article 3612 of the Criminal Code). He did not admit guilt. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner.
