Vinicius vs. Rodiger, next season together? (Reuters)
Reports of Real Madrid’s desire to add Antonio Rodiger to its ranks have been running in the Spanish media for several weeks, not to mention months. This morning (Friday) they appear to have stepped up, after it was announced in Marca that Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti had approached the management, led by President Polarentino Perez, directly and asked to sign the brake.
The 29-year-old’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season and this is another reason for the great demand he is accumulating, along with the uncertainty that has prevailed in the Blues since the departure of Roman Abramovich. In a meeting between the Italian coach and Peres, Ancelotti claimed that Rodiger is the perfect addition to the white center of defense, which is impressive this season, with Adar Militeau, David Alaba and Nacho as backup. In addition, his signing could allow Ancelotti to use Alaba as a left-back more broadly as well.
The Spanish media have noted that the very fact that the brakeman has lowered his salary demand, which initially stood at € 12 million per season, has certainly become a viable option for a La Liga leader. Rodiger recorded 47 all-season appearances this season, during which he provided an impressive figure for a defensive player with five goals, including one against the Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League quarter-final rematch.
