Bristol Park, one of the world’s oldest zoos, has been permanently closed since yesterday due to a drop in visitor numbers.
Bristol Park in Britain, a European country, has been open to the public since 1836. Bristol Park is the 5th oldest zoo in the world. Spread over an area of about 12 acres, the park is home to more than 7,000 animals and 420 species.
Since 1836, more than 9 crore visitors have visited the park. Also, it has protected 175 endangered species. First recognized as a rare species, the black rhinoceros was born in the park.
In this case, due to the reduced number of visitors due to the Covid restrictions, the park management was unable to cope with the financial situation. In the last 6 years, there is a shortage of funds even for the maintenance of the park for 4 years. After this, the management decided to close the park.
‘Bristol Zoo has been an integral part of Bristol life for 186 years and is recognized worldwide. Park spokesman Simon Garrett said the park has been a significant part of their lives, containing lasting memories for thousands of families.

Before the closure, the park management organized some programs for visitors to visit one last time yesterday. Also, despite the closure of Bristol Park, the management plans to open a new wildlife park in South Gloucestershire in 2024. Until then, animals including gorilla monkeys and red pandas will be protected in Bristol Park.
