by time news

Last December, a large treasure trove was discovered in Caesarea, an ancient harbor near the coast of Israel. The prehistoric treasure was discovered by divers under the Israeli Department of Archeology. Israel’s Ministry of Antiquities said the treasure was accidentally unearthed while surveying an area of ancient importance.

For the first time, divers came across an anchor made of metal, which was deteriorating due to age. Following this, they conducted a vigorous search here to see if there were any more hidden objects. That’s when many things from ancient times surfaced.

The expedition came across treasure from two large shipwrecks in the 14th century AD. It includes thousands of ancient coins, precious and different jewels. Coins are made of gold, silver and bronze. The treasure includes a precious gemstone, bells made of bronze, a metal statue in the form of an eagle which was the symbol of the Roman Empire at the time, a sculpture of a masked dancer and pottery. But the most interesting and precious treasure among them is not one of these, it is a gold ring. A green colored gemstone in the center of the octagonal structured ring. It also has the image of a shepherd inscribed on it.

Archaeologists say that similar coins have been found in Rome. But it is not yet known who the ships belonged to or how they were wrecked. Studies are ongoing for this. Caesarea is located on the Mediterranean coast, south of the city of Haifa. The city was extensively built during the reign of King Herod of Judea in 10 BC. It is named after the famous Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar. It was an industrially important city during Herod’s time. Later this faded away.
