Several constituent entities of the Russian Federation have faced showers at once – and now they are eliminating their consequences. In Sochi, the rain did not stop for two days, because of this, the mountain rivers overflowed their banks. All beaches in the resort town are closed, the coastal strip is covered with silt and debris. In the Bakhchisarai region of Crimea, a three-month norm of precipitation fell, which provoked mudflows and powerful floods. Several towns and villages were flooded in the Sverdlovsk Region, and the authorities had to evacuate children’s camps.

The last two days in Sochi rain poured incessantly, a squally wind blew off roofs and fell trees. The mountain rivers Kepsha, Kudepsta, Khosta, Matsesta and Khorota rose to critical levels and overflowed their banks in places. The Adler and Khostinsky districts were particularly affected by the disaster: water flooded the first floor of the city hospital No. 3, as well as a kindergarten in the village of Kepsha. The rescuers evacuated eight people from there.

The city authorities considered the possibility of evacuation: on Monday morning, loudspeakers on the streets of Sochi urged citizens to be ready to leave their homes. But the streams of water gradually went into the sea, leaving mud and silt on the streets. According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Krasnodar Territory, water had to be pumped out of thirty households and yards. Due to the broken wires, about 5 thousand people were left without electricity for several hours. In the Lazarevsky district, a mudflow has come down the road, road communication with the villages of Tatyanovka and Tkhagapsh has been interrupted, emergency recovery work is underway.

During the flooding of the rivers, streams of water were carried by cars, at the moment it is known about five drowned cars, reports the Ministry of Emergency Situations. In the city center, rescuers pulled a drowning man out of the Sochi River. A resident of Adler became a victim of the elements: a young man parked his car, began to get out of it – and at that moment a tree fell on the car.

Excursions and hiking trips in the resort town have been suspended; in particular, the Arboretum Arboretum, the park cable car, hiking trails and all display facilities of the Sochi National Park were closed, trips to Krasnaya Polyana and the Olympic Park were canceled. All the beaches of Sochi are closed due to a strong storm, the coastal strip is heavily littered – mountain rivers carry fallen trees, branches, debris into the sea. A strong wind blew the roofs of the beach pavilions, sunbeds and umbrellas were torn from their places. “The tenants of the beach areas have already begun to eliminate the consequences, the work will be completed as soon as the weather returns to normal,” the press service of the mayor’s office explained to Kommersant. On Monday evening, Sochi Mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky said that on Tuesday the city would be in full order.

«The situation in Sochi is generally stable, the weather is improving, ”the head of the city explained.

The governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratyev, arrived at the scene of the disaster. He examined the flooded households in the village of Kudepsta and instructed the local authorities to send monitoring groups to assess the damage to property of citizens. In addition, the governor instructed to develop a schedule for river clearing to prevent new flooding in Sochi.

In Crimea the damage is re-calculated after the second incursion of bad weather in the month. This time, the Bakhchisarai region of the peninsula suffered the most, where, according to weather forecasters, a three-month precipitation rate of 113 mm of water fell. Storm runoffs and overflowing the banks of the Kokkozka and Belbek rivers provoked mudflows and powerful floods – in particular, in the villages of Kuibyshevo, Golubinka and Nizhnyaya Golubinka. As Kommersant was told in the Emergencies Ministry, more than 160 people were evacuated from there, 121 houses were declared flooded, five of them beyond restoration. A local teacher died and was washed away by a strong stream of water. Another woman was admitted to the district hospital with multiple injuries.

Heavy rains also covered Krasnogvardeisky, Simferopol districts, Feodosia, Alushta and Yalta, where several residential buildings were flooded again. Due to heavy rainfall, local authorities have suspended the harvesting campaign throughout the republic. More than 40 hectares of agricultural land have been flooded, officials said. According to forecasts of weather forecasters, the threat of powerful showers will persist on the peninsula for at least several more days.

In the Sverdlovsk region last weekend, a two-month norm of precipitation fell, as a result of which several cities and villages were flooded. In the village of Nikolo-Pavlovskoye, Gornouralsky urban district, 20 residential buildings, 74 adjoining plots, as well as 3 km of the road were flooded. In addition, three dams were washed out in the district as a result of heavy rainfall. In Verkhnyaya Salda, 79 residential buildings were flooded, as well as houses located in collective gardens; washed away the pedestrian bridge. Due to the threat of flooding, Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev ordered the evacuation of the country camps “Lesnaya Skazka” and “Tirus”, in which there are about 300 children. The authorities of the Gornouralsk and Verkhnaya Salda urban districts introduced an emergency regime.
