Kolossos has officially announced the acquisition and return of Kostas Papadakis to the team, after four years.
The “Sea” officialized the transfer of the athlete, stating the following:
“KAE Kolossos H Hotels Collection is pleased to announce the return of Kostas Papadakis! Kostas joined our team in 2016, a free agent from Panathinaikos, where he played until 2019. Then he returned to Panathinaikos, continued in Larissa, Iraklis and AEK, while until recently he was playing with Lavrios Megabolt.
Welcome back Kostas, we wish you health and we are sure that we will live more beautiful moments together”.
Papadakis: “Rhodes is my second home!”
Center Kostis Godikas and guard Kostas Papadakis were “hosted” on the “Live Replay” show of EEC WebRadio and talked about their informal “exchange” between Kolossos and Lavrio. It should be noted that Kostas Papadakis is returning after four years at Kolossos, while Gondikas will continue at G.S. Lavrio. In detail, what the two players said:
Kostis Gondikas said:
On his transfer to Lavrio: “It’s not a big story. The people of Colossus and the conditions, everything is excellent, so there is no such thing. I decided that this was better for me, to go to a club where I will find more space and time to show what I can do. I will do everything for the team to win. I hope everything goes well, we get victories, the team stays in the division and everything is positive”.
On this year’s goal of Lavrios: “I think that survival is informally the goal of many teams, the initial goal, and then they look at what else they can achieve. In my opinion, as competitive as the league has become now, all teams at this level start with him as their initial target.”
On the new format of the Basket League: “For all of us who live it, it is different. With this new run, many last minute changes can be made in the sense that many teams can get even stronger towards the end and this leads to a “domino” where all teams make additions and subtractions before start the 3rd round. This will certainly make a difference in the outcome of many results.”
On the fact that for some years players have been able to change teams during the season: “It has definitely changed our lives. It’s just that over time the regulations on it also change, this actually grows and increases the range of options that both players and teams have. So in case of a mistake either by the player or the team, there is always the possibility of correction for the better and both the players and the teams are always happy with what they have.”
On whether he is thinking about returning to the National Team: “I don’t think there is a player in my position who would say that he doesn’t exist. Especially for children who have already participated in the National team, it is always in the mind to continue to make a good course in order to continue to be there. There are many children who, with their effort and their daily work, claim a position, whether it will be in the “windows”, or in the preparation, or in something else”.
Kostas Papadakis said:
On his transfer to Colossos: “It was a bit sudden, everything happened very quickly, let’s say overnight. I think that’s what our job has, we have to adapt. Godikas came to Lavrio and a place opened up for me in Kolossos, where I was again for 3 years”.
About Rhodes: “Rhodes is… my second home, I often find some time when I have a day off to come, because I have many friends there. I think it’s a very good choice for me, the island and everything in general.”
On his adaptation: “I know where I’ve come from, all the people around Colossus, they respect me and I appreciate them a lot. I will be working with the coach for the first time, but I think it was much easier than going to a team where I would know nothing and nobody.”
On whether the team’s style of play played a role in his decision: “It definitely played a role as well. But I met the coach in the conversation we had before I came to Rhodes. So I hope it turns out good for both of them, to help the Kolossos team and I to be promoted by the Rhodes team.”
On the ambitions of the Colossus: “I think it’s about playing beautiful basketball, enjoying it and through it getting better and getting the wins we can. Let’s “pierce” our ceiling, every time do something more and why not a big victory that will bring us higher in the standings”.
On what went wrong in Lavrio: “Maybe it’s a little bit my fault, maybe a little bit and the conditions in the team’s game plan didn’t help me to get ahead either. I think both are stable teams in A1 for many years and are role models for the new teams to come. I would describe them as healthy clubs, which have nothing but good to offer to Greek basketball.”
About the fact that for some years players can change teams during the season: “For me it’s unheard of, I’m not used to leaving a team. I think this is only for the good. When in a situation neither one nor the other is happy, if a common solution is found and you go somewhere that you think will be better, it can only do good for the psychology of the player and the respective team”.
