It never dawns early when, for the sake of doing things, our media leaves their usual spaces to settle in with the community. The first light of day surprised those who did not give up for a moment in the work to prepare the site where the meeting would take place. Thus, with the intensity that the Cuban Press Day is experiencing these days, this assault by the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) to the very core of the community was born.

The festival Public Press, people’s press On this occasion he arrived at the Santo Suárez Park of the Tamarindo Popular Council in the capital municipality of 10 de Octubre. The chosen site is located in a neighborhood in the process of transformation, relatively close to Toyo Corner, where the harshest images related to the events of July 11, 2021 were captured.

Community that, transfigured into a child, an elderly person, a pregnant woman and in so many other peculiar forms that inhabit the most humble places in our country, received our press professionals with the warmth that characterizes Cubans.

On this occasion, the Public Press Festival, the people’s press, reached the Santo Suárez Park of the Tamarindo Popular Council in the capital municipality of 10 de Octubre.

The people who passed through there, even for a moment, knew how to ignore the tedium of everyday life and the difficulties of sharing through dance, music, participatory games, children’s activities and many other encounters with personalities of the media, along with which they also immersed themselves in the dynamics of the print, radio, television and hypermedia environment.

There were no shortage of surprises such as the presence of world record holder Erick Hernández who offered those present a demonstration of his art with the ball. The festival also welcomed leading actors from popular television programs who were able to feel more closely the affection and respect of the people who follow them every step of the way. Not far behind were the cartoonists from the Palante Humorous Newspaper who gave the little ones portraits and caricatures and created a work representing the condemnation of the largest of the Antilles to the genocide perpetrated by the State of Israel against the Palestinians.

Postcards that restore the soul and reinforce convictions of those who fight for an unfinished project like the Cuban one that irreverently aspires to the greatest possible justice for all.

Fundamentals that our press draws on in its daily battle and in defense of that legacy that has transversalized the nation since that date when Martí’s newspaper was published. These are the same values that cannot be renounced under any circumstances and to which it is imperative to return a thousand times in the desire to continue combining love and hope, which is to say Homeland.
