The Maritime pays. This Wednesday, Racing Power and the islanders agreed on the schedule, at Jamor, and it was João Marques’ team that came out victorious (3-1). In the duel on round 15 of the competition, the dead ball played a preponderant role in the hosts’ triumph.
The match was not exactly rich in scoring opportunities. Racing Power always had more initiative, but managed to create little or nothing in the open game. Despite the few clear goals, the truth is that the score changed three times in the first 20 minutes. Gerda Konst scored twice (7′ and 19′) following set pieces taken by Beatriz Rodrigues and, in between, Rebekka Frederiksen scored from the penalty spot (16′).
The momentum continued in the second half, with Marítimo finding it very difficult to attack with discretion. The island’s mission became more complicated when Mirianeé Zaragoza was sent off, in the 72nd minute, for a double yellow card. Until the end, Racing Power ended the match with a goal from Sini Laaksonen (90+4′), following another corner.
With two rounds to go before the end of the race, Racing Power now has 40 points and reinforces third place, four more than SC Braga. Marítimo is seventh, with 31 points.
