The Ministry of Agriculture of the Junta de Andalucía will increase aid for agricultural insurance by 61 percent to reach 12.4 million euros in 2023, while subsidies for 8.5 million have been paid in 2022 to support those who bet on ensure its production.

In a statement, the general director of Agricultural and Livestock Production, Manuel Gómez, has highlighted the Andalusian Government’s budget for 2023 to support the contracting of combined agricultural insurance and has underlined “the firm commitment” that the Ministry is making in this aspect.

“Agricultural insurance is a very useful tool to offer guarantees to rural producers, since it can be a great help in cases of relevant climatic adversities”, commented the director general, referring, as an example, to “the DANAs that affect our Autonomous Community with increasing frequency”.

The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has encouraged farmers and ranchers in Andalusia to sign the corresponding insurance each year in order to “have a safety net that, in case of need, cushions the an economic blow that could be caused by frost or torrential rain.

Gómez regretted that the Junta de Andalucía did not allocate funds to facilitate the contracting of agricultural insurance “between 2012 and 2016”, in such a way that “insurance in the Andalusian sector was discouraged and many producers were exposed to greater risks.”

Regarding this line of incentives in 2022, the general director has detailed that “the Ministry of Agriculture has already placed more than 8.5 million euros in the hands of Andalusian farmers and ranchers related to these aids.”

In addition, it has highlighted the “speed that the current government is applying to the processing of these subsidies”, whose payment term “has been considerably reduced compared to previous legislatures.”

“We are aware that for some farmers and ranchers the initial outlay involved in contracting the insurance involves a great effort, which is why we work to shorten the times as much as possible and so that they can count on the economic resources that correspond to them as soon as possible”, The CEO has concluded.
