After more than two centuries with the ball, James Anderson has retired from the national team. Even after retirement, the responsibility is not over yet. New responsibilities have come to the shoulders. The 40-year-old fast bowler will work as a mentor or consultant to the new pacers.
Anderson wore the England jersey for the last time in the Lord’s Test in the ongoing series against the West Indies. He will serve as a mentor in two Tests in this series. However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has not confirmed whether he will be seen in this role thereafter.
Young pacer Gut Atkinson made his debut in Anderson’s farewell match. Atkinson announced his arrival with 12 wickets in his opening match. Mark Wood partnered him in the Trent Bridge Test. Anderson will be responsible for guiding and looking after them.
Anderson will not be seen on the field for England, but will play at home. He plays for Lancashire in the County Championship. It is not known whether he will play in front. In this regard, ECB managing director Rob Keer commented, “He will decide whether he will play for Lancashire or not after the Lord’s Test.”
