Andong City (Mayor Ki-chang Kwon) and the Andong City Welfare Facilities Association for the Disabled (Chairman Seung-taek Oh) held the ‘Andong City Disabled Welfare Facilities Human Rights Strengthening Workshop’ at the main auditorium of the Andong City Youth Training Center on December 12 to strengthen the human rights awareness of workers at welfare facilities for the disabled.

Andong City recently experienced unpleasant incidents of human rights violations of the disabled that occurred at welfare facilities for the disabled, and determined that training for workers regarding abuse of the disabled was necessary, so they prepared a workshop with the Andong City Welfare Facilities Association for the Disabled.

On this day, a lecture by Park Jeong-sik, director of the Central Disability Rights Protection Agency, was held under the theme of ‘Prevention and Reporting of Abuse of Persons with Disabilities and Sexual Crimes Against Persons with Disabilities’, and participating workers expanded their awareness of the human rights of persons with disabilities through questions and answers.

Oh Seung-taek, president of the Andong City Welfare Facility Association for the Disabled, said, “I hope this will serve as an opportunity to create Andong City welfare facilities for the disabled that respect diversity without prejudice and protect the human rights of the disabled.”

Eom Gil-yong, head of the Andong City Senior Citizens and Disabled Department, said, “Human rights violations against the disabled can occur not only in welfare facilities for the disabled, but also in passing words and small actions in our daily lives.” He added, “As citizens of the community, the role of facility workers in relation to the disabled must be strengthened.” “We do it,” he emphasized.
