Andong City (Mayor Kwon Ki-chang) was finally selected for the workation category of the ‘Go Hometown All Come’ public contest promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 9th, securing a total project cost of 2 billion won (1 billion won from the national budget and 1 billion won from the local budget).

The selected workation is a business that supports the construction of corporate-linked facilities where workers can enjoy vacation while performing their daily work at a vacation destination.

The city planned this project with the goal of maximizing the inflow of the residential lifestyle population by establishing a differentiated virtuous cycle system that leads to the five major healing strategies of Andong-style Hanok Ollae (五~Re) 「① Urban Regeneration (Regeration) ② Rest (Relax) ③ Recharge (Recharge) ④ Vitality (Refresh) ⑤ Recovery and Return (Renew&Return)」, aiming to build a space of opportunity for a new leap forward beyond recovery from exhausting daily life.

To this end, we will create a workation center and a complex cultural space center by remodeling idle spaces using Hanok, a regional comparative advantage resource, centered around Okjeong-dong, thereby creating an attractive and vibrant space and an urban healing space for young people, the largest group in demand for workation.

In addition, the city has set up a rest-centered “Healing Course” and a work-centered “Startup Support Course” as representative programs according to the purpose of the visitor, and is promoting customized programs closely related to users in connection with local resources or local specialized industries (culture, tourism) to increase user satisfaction.

In particular, we plan to transform the workation space into an attractive space where tradition and modernity coexist by building a customized Hwalinsimbang (活人心方) specialized space that actively utilizes the MBTI personality test, which is widely known to the MZ generation.

In addition, in order to successfully promote the business, we plan to establish a close business collaboration system with local innovative entities such as urban regeneration centers and village cooperatives to secure a foundation for mutual growth, and to strategically promote Andong City as the optimal location for workation by utilizing various media owned by the city, thereby creating a new vitality space in the old city center.

Mayor Kwon Ki-chang of Andong City said, “The Hometown Come Back Project is a key growth engine that is absolutely necessary for our city to make a new leap forward as it is facing the threat of extinction as a local area due to the influx of people who are staying overnight.” He added, “We will use this project as a springboard to build a representative model of workation with expandability and competitiveness that utilizes regional specialized resources, and we will push it forward substantively so that it can spread nationwide.”
