Basement Flooded During Movie Night in Tösse, Sweden

Last Saturday night, Andreas Solhemmer and his wife were enjoying a movie night in their home in Tösse, Sweden when disaster struck. As they were watching Guardians of the Galaxy 3, they suddenly heard a rippling sound that caught their attention.

Curious about the source of the noise, Andreas went down to the basement, only to be met with a shocking sight – water was gushing like a fountain from the toilet. “I thought the sound was coming from outside at first, but then I went down to the basement and to my dismay, I see that it flows like a fountain from the toilet,” Andreas recalled.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Andreas immediately called his wife down to help salvage whatever they could from the flooded basement. They attempted to use towels and a boot to absorb the water but their efforts were in vain. The power in the basement remained on, resulting in some shocks as they tried to move their belongings to safety.

The family acted quickly by pumping out some of the water with submersible pumps while waiting for the rescue team from Karlstad to arrive. It took the emergency services two and a half hours to completely remove the water. A day later, Andreas and his family were still mopping up the remaining layer of water that had settled like a film on the basement floor.

Andreas now hopes that his insurance company will be able to reimburse the cost of the items destroyed in the flood. Unfortunately, his daughter, who is about to start studying, lost most of her belongings. They were only able to save an Ikea case that floated around in the water.

This is not the first time a flood has occurred in the area. Andreas explained that they live in a sensitive area where stormwater does not drain properly and instead gets pushed back towards their house. Although disappointed by the situation, Andreas maintains a positive attitude, stating, “It would have been nice to have a swimming pool in the basement, but not with this water.”

The family is now waiting for the insurance company to assess the damage and determine if they will receive compensation. In the meantime, they are grateful that no one was injured and are focused on cleaning up and moving forward.

The incident in Tösse has caught the attention of local media, with SVT Värmland reporting on the unfortunate flooding. As the Solhemmer family continues their recovery efforts, they hope that this will be the last time they have to face such a destructive deluge in their home.
