The defense of the former mayor of Ñuñoa confirmed that he will appeal to the Court of Appeals to change the precautionary measure.

The former mayor of Ñuñoa Andrés Zahri must remain under nighttime house arrestas determined by the Eighth Guarantee Court of Santiago.

The decision was made by the court after formalize the former communal chief for the crime of fraud against the treasury for more than 176 million pesos.

According to what was stated by the Prosecutor’s Office during the formalization, in his capacity as president of the Municipal Social Development Corporation of Ñuñoa, Zarhi “signed and allowed contracts and annexes to contracts of the Directors of said Corporation to be signed, which contained abusive clauses related to the granting of compensation in any event and without legal limit“, as specified.

According to the prosecution body, the former mayor of Ñuñoa did not have the powers to authorize or sign such contracts.

The case against the former communal chief began after the complaint filed by the current mayor of Ñuñoa, Emilia Ríos.
