Google intends to stop supporting its popular Calendar app on devices running Android 7 Nougat and below. This means that millions of users will not be able to use Google’s proprietary calendar, reports the AndroidPolice portal, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.

Enthusiasts discovered that the updated version of the app has a hidden notification urging users to update to Android Oreo (8.0) or later. Otherwise the application will stop functioning.

According to analysts, at least 2.6% of users worldwide own smartphones with Android 7 Nougat. It was released in 2016. According to experts, abandoning this version means that about 50 million devices will remain without access to Google Calendar. The most common version of Android is version 13, which occupies 22.4% of the market.

However, users can use other calendars that are supported by Android 7. Also, owners of old smartphones can update their operating system to Android 8, if such an option is provided, or switch to custom firmware with the current version of Android.
