Anfa District Prefecture: Continued mobilization to monitor the state of supply and control prices and quality

In this context, the members of the commission carried out, on Friday, a field visit to monitor the state of supply and control the prices and quality of vegetables, fruits, meat and fish in several markets and fight against any form of speculation or monopoly likely to affect the purchasing power of the consumer.

In a statement to M24, the continuous news channel of MAP, Noureddine Boudam, head of the economic affairs and coordination division at the Casablanca-Anfa district prefecture, indicated that this mobilization on the ground was launched on the basis of the circulars of the Ministry of the Interior in order to control the prices of food products and closely monitor the supply situation, while ensuring to fight against monopoly and speculation practices in order to preserve the purchasing power of citizens, adding that this operation is carried out in coordination with the various services concerned and local authorities.

Regarding the preparations for the holy month of Ramadan, Mr. Boudam explained that the prefecture has developed a control program through the establishment of four joint commissions with the participation of the security and hygiene services of the districts to ensure the daily control of several markets and points of sale, in addition to a joint commission with the participation of the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) for the control of butchers and bakeries, as well as a commission for monitoring the quality of basic foodstuffs with the participation of ONSSA (vegetable and plant-based price control service).

He also mentioned the establishment of a permanence that operates outside of administrative working hours and weekly vacation days at the prefecture level, stating that it will be provided by controllers from the economic affairs and coordination division to receive complaints and claims from consumers.

Furthermore, he stressed that the control operations, carried out from November 2022 until March 23, 2023, through four commissions, made it possible to carry out 320 field visits to 2,335 businesses, noting that 753 violations were recorded, including 298 concerning the failure to display prices, 359 for failure to present invoices, and 96 violations concerning plastic bags.

Regarding the health control of snack bars, Mr. Boudam reported 91 notices, 22 warnings and 33 suspensions of activity, adding that 5 tons and 543 kg of foodstuffs unfit for consumption (red meat, white meat and fish) were seized and destroyed.
