Born in Torrent (Valencia) in 1975, Contreras is a Civil, Canal and Port Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and has various postgraduate courses in construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure. Throughout his 23 years of professional career dedicated to rail transport, he has actively participated in all the processes involved in the execution and maintenance of this type of infrastructure. In relation to the drafting of projects and technical assistance on site, between 2000 and 2006 he participated in the execution of works such as the undergrounding of the Valencia metro line, in the area of Alboraia, the tram line in Burjassot and various projects. platform of the Madrid-Levante high-speed line.

In 2018 he was appointed general director of Conservation and Maintenance of Adif, highlighting, among others, the execution of recovery and resilience funds, the launch of the renewal of a high number of lines of the conventional network, the comprehensive renewal of the first LAV Spanish (Madrid-Seville), as well as the maintenance of the railway network during the Covid crisis and the resolution of incidents related to adverse meteorological effects, such as Filomena or Gloria, among others.
