Ángel Hernández starred this Friday in a brilliant performance in the trampoline gymnastics events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The 29-year-old gymnast, born in Spain but with Colombian roots, was the first to compete in the initial qualifying round.

His acrobatics, speed, and strength elicited applause at the Bercy Arena, where he achieved an initial score of 57.900, placing him among the top positions.

However, he was not satisfied with that mark and improved it on his second attempt, achieving a score of 58.640, which qualified him in eighth place for the final. He became the first Colombian and the first Latin American to reach this stage in this discipline.

In the final, Hernández executed his routine with precision, talent, and emotion. However, he made a mistake on the landing, which cost him points.

He ended with a final score of 53.150 and finished in seventh place, earning himself an Olympic diploma.

Belarusian Ivan Litvinovich took the gold medal with a score of 63.090 points, while Chinese athletes Zisai Wang with 61.890 points and Langyu Yan with 60.950 points won silver and bronze, respectively.

It is important to highlight that each routine consists of 10 elements that are scored based on their difficulty, execution, and flight time. Additionally, the final score is also affected if gymnasts incur penalties, such as mistakes on landings or stepping off the trampoline.
