“Angelo Zanibelli – The word that heals” award: storytelling is good for health

In over a year of global health crisis, the narrative has proved to be an increasingly important element in raising public awareness on the issue of health: in general, even beyond the pandemic, the word of the literature on the topics of disease and treatment, which is traits of novel, popular essay or memoir, useful on various fronts. As a therapeutic tool, for sharing experience, for disseminating prevention practices, for disseminating aspects of research.


And there are many stories to tell in this area: those who have an unpublished one in their drawer, dedicated to the themes of health, disease and treatment, disability, scientific investigation, have until September 15 to participate in a prestigious award that has a section dedicated to the unpublished.

Returns for the 2021 edition, the ninth, a literary award dedicated to health and healthcare in their various forms, the Angelo Zanibelli Award – The word that cares, established by Sanofi Italy in 2013 to promote literature as a dissemination tool on health issues, and to remember the personality by Zanibelli, communications director of the pharmaceutical company, who passed away in 2012.


There are two main sections: the one dedicated to published works, which already sees more than one hundred of them in the running, and the unpublished section, which is still open to participation and to which it is possible to send one’s work until September 15 (the complete announcement can be found on the Premiozanibelli website. it). Last year, the winner of the section was an unpublished work by Luca Serafini, the text The heart of a man: the journalist and writer told the story of one of the great doctors of the twentieth century, the award-winning Italian-Argentine heart surgeon Ren Geronimo Favaloro, recognized as the pioneer of coronary artery bypass grafting. The winner of the Inediti section, proclaimed by the jury of the award chaired by Gianni Letta and composed of journalists, entrepreneurs, personalities from institutions and the healthcare world, as in past editions will have the opportunity to be published by Rizzoli editore.

A novelty of this edition, in a year in which the use of social networks has grown (together with the reading of books), lies in the fact that the award will also have a digital echo: the bookgrammer Marta Perego and Stefania Soma (alias @petuniaollister) will dedicate a series of events and conversations online on their social channels to La word that curates, where the digital community of readers will be able to share opinions and reflections, and choose the work published in the competition to which assign a Special Mention. In addition to the two sections, the recognition also includes three special prizes: the La word that cares award for patient associations, the Personality of the Year award in the health sector and the recognition The value of public-private partnership. The official awards ceremony will take place in the fall.
