Angers – Saint-Etienne (4-2): the Angevins face the shock of the poorly classified and KO the greens

by time news

Two struggling graduates entertained their supporters, but only one satisfied them on an accounting level. Seventeenth and penultimate in Ligue 1 before the match, Angers dominated AS Saint-Étienne (4-2), now fifteenth and ahead of their tormentor of the day, with just one point ahead of the play-offs in Le Havre.

With this success, the Angevins feel a sensation unknown for a while in Ligue 1: winning. True, they had only lost one of their last five league games. The problem is that after eight days they still hadn’t won a single match. Last week, Himad Abdelli missed the penalty that would have allowed SCO to give Toulouse a two-goal lead. Finally, TFC was added to Angers.

This Saturday, Alexandre Dujeux’s players lost the advantage they had gained twice, but the solution came, this time, from 11 metres. Ibrahima Niane was responsible (68th) for the free kick conversion obtained by Farid El-Melali. Bamba Dieng scored in injury time after a gift from Mickael Nadé.

A projection from Jim Allevinah and the calmness of Abdelli allowed Angers to start the match in the best possible way. The number 10 was in no hurry to control the ball before releasing Yunis Abdelhamid and deceiving Gautier Larsonneur (7th). Less than ten minutes later, Zuriko Davitashvili had to try twice to convert her equalizing penalty.

Double for Davitashvili

Between failure and a successful attempt: an unlikely goal ultimately denied to Stéphanois due to… a premature entry of an Angevin player into his own area. The Georgian avoided major frustration for his partners. On the other hand, he could do nothing when a chaotic sequence on the green surface failed at the feet of Jean-Eudes Aholou, too happy to see the ball bounce towards him not to catapult it into Larsonneur’s cage (2- 1, 39 ).

Already the author of a hat-trick against Auxerre (3-1), Davitashvili doubled the lead against Angers with a lucky curling shot (57th). But the Greens didn’t get far in the end. Unlike the Rouge Direct association, which denounced “a homophobic chant” chanted by Saint-Etienne fans in the 19th minute, quoting the Sport and Interior ministers on X.
