The search for mechanisms to increase bilateral relations in the cultural, economic and humanitarian domains dominated the discussions, this Monday, in Luanda, between Angolan and Russian authorities.

These discussions took place during an audience granted by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, to the ambassador of the Russian Federation in the country, Vladimir Tararov.

The meeting served for the authorities to address aspects related to the Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for July, in Saint Petersburg, with the participation of Heads of State.

The event will be preceded by an Economic Humanitarian Forum to facilitate exchanges between businesspeople at various levels.

The diplomat added that the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which will take place within the scope of the second Russia-Africa Summit, is a unique event in relations with the countries of the African continent.

He referred that the Forum aims at diversifying the forms and areas of Russian-African cooperation, as well as defining its long-term development.

“Traditionally, the open discussions of the event’s business program will address the most relevant topics on the Russian-African agenda. Given the wide range of areas covered by Russian-African cooperation that go beyond the economy, it was decided to complement the 2023 Forum with a significant humanitarian component”, he underlined.

Vladimir Tararov added that as part of the event, a large-scale exhibition will be organized, as well as a space for business meetings.

On the occasion, the diplomat said that Angola could take advantage of the event to leverage the economy in the mining and agricultural sectors.

Regarding cooperation, he also said that “we are preparing a fertilizer factory to help the Angolan farmer”.

The Russian diplomat in Angola also spoke about the tour he made to the provinces of Huíla and Benguela, Namibe, Huambo, as well as making it known that Russia has a company that has already started supplying seeds from regions similar to Angola.

In the field of education, the diplomat stressed that the Russian government intends to build schools to provide professional training to young people in order to reduce unemployment and poverty.

Angola and the Russian Confederation have expressed interest in strengthening cooperation, with emphasis on the diversification of the strategic partnership in the political-diplomatic, defense and security, technological and economic-business domains.

Also this Monday, the Vice-President granted an audience to the Hungarian ambassador, Zoltes Mares, with whom she reviewed matters on bilateral cooperation.

Cooperation relations between the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Hungary were established in 1997 through the signing of the Economic and Technical-Scientific Cooperation Agreement. From 1977 to 1981, several agreements were signed in the areas of Agriculture, Culture, Commerce and Health.

Between the two countries, exchange agreements were signed between the Institute of International Relations of Angola and the Institute of International Relations and Commerce of Hungary, in 2018.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Ministries of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Angola and of Agriculture of Hungary on cooperation in this field.

Also within the framework of cooperation, an agreement was signed to abolish visas in diplomatic and service passports in 2019 and the Economic and Technical-Scientific Cooperation Agreement signed in Budapest in 2018.

The two countries also have an Educational Exchange program between the Ministry of Higher Education in Angola and Human Capacities in Hungary. FMA/SC/ADR
