Angola election; Left party back in power; João Lorenzo to continue as President

Luanda: The left-wing party MPLA (People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola) won again in the elections held in the African country of Angola.

The government of Angola for the next five years is in the hands of the MPLA by winning 51.2 percent of the votes. With this, the current president and MPLA leader João Lourenço is sure to rule Angola for another five years.

The opposition party Unita won more than forty percent (44) of the votes for the first time in its history.

At the same time, the figures released by the Election Commission show that MPLA has a big drop in majority compared to the last election. In the elections held in 2017, MPLA won 61 percent votes and Unita 27 percent votes.

The election was held in the country at the end of August.

The MPLA is the party in power in Angola for the past fifty years. Meanwhile, the party was constantly criticized on the grounds of unemployment and poverty and hunger in the country.

At the same time, the latest reports are coming out that the unit is preparing to take legal action against the MPLA with the allegation that the election result is sabotage.

Angola is one of the last independent countries in Africa. Angola has been ruled by the MPLA since independence from Portugal in 1975.

Joao Lorenzo has been the president since 2017.
