The television artists gave an ultimatum asking for reforms to eliminate discrimination. Abhinaya Shilpi Sangh’s current committee is in question today as it has made statements in favor of the Sheikh Hasina government and against the agitating students and is active in the discussed ‘Alo Ashbei’ WhatsApp group. Ordinary artists are unwilling to take responsibility for these incidents.

Ahsan Habib Nasim, president of the current committee of the Actors’ Association, and Raonak Hasan, the general secretary, were urged to discuss the matter, but there was no response. On the contrary, artists have complained of discrimination as ‘non-members’. In view of that, all members and non-members of the association sat in a meeting on Saturday (September 7) seeking reform of the current committee. In the meeting, it was demanded that the current committee apologize for the mistakes of the past days and announce the dissolution of the executive committee and hold new elections. The aggrieved artists have given an ultimatum till September 10 by fixing three days for this.

Iftekhar Dinar, Ajmeri Haque Bandhan, FS Naeem, Nadia Ahmed, Nazia Haque Arsha, Shyamal Mawla, Sushma Sarkar, Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed, Moushumi Hamid, Khairul Basar, Sharif Siraj, Manoj Pramanik, Sohail Mondal, Arefin Jilani were present. Shakib, Siam Nasir, Imran Haso etc.

The aggrieved artistes present alleged that the image of the entire artiste community has been tarnished due to a few artistes and the leaders of the performers’ association. Not all artists will take responsibility for this. The present committee must apologize for this. After a long meeting of about four hours, they made four demands.

At that time, actor Sohail Mondal said, ‘We want to talk. Thinking about how to reshape artists through the ongoing transition. I want to talk about the overall situation. I want to reach a certain place. Members and non-members no longer want this distinction. All artists are one. The members of the association have also responded to our demand.

Manoj Pramanik said, ‘There is only one reason for artists to unite, we are very saddened by what is happening in the country at this time. Some artist’s behavior and their speech are inhumane. In the meantime they have done many inhuman things. Which is a shame for the artist community. All artists have to take that responsibility. Why do we take this responsibility without committing a crime? We want reform. We set out with adequate research and planning. I have given them time till September 10 to discuss. We want to be treated like artists. If we don’t get their response, we will take an alternative route.’

Ahsan Habib Nasim, president of Shilpi Sangh, said, ‘We are not aware of the decision. We are ready to sit with the members. We also do not want discrimination. There may be personal grudges, not the responsibility of the organization. The organization will run at its own pace.’

The election of this two-year organization was held on January 28, 2022. On February 11, the newly elected committee of the Actors’ Association began its journey with the oath. The committee’s two years have long since ended. More than six months have passed. But there is no demand for new elections.

In the meantime, the current committee of the organization came under fire by making a statement in favor of the Sheikh Hasina government. Many questions have also been raised about the president’s active participation in the ‘Alo Ashbei’ group. It is in this context that ordinary artists have united. Seeking reforms to eliminate discrimination. However, Nasim claims that Abhinaya Shilpi Sangh is a three-year organization.
