The Taunus is densely populated. For a few months it has had one more resident: the wolf. While a farmer is therefore giving up his herd of cattle, a farm operator fears for her Icelandic horse breeding.

Ztwo pastures in Wehrheim in the same night, birth on one, death on the other: in the darkness of the meadows at Hirtenhof an Icelandic foal is born. A few kilometers away, seven sheep are killed in the paddock next to an orchard. The DNA analysis is not yet available, but Ines Röseler is certain that it could only have been a wolf.

The horse breeder and vet likes wolves. But she thinks that the animals don’t fit into a cultural landscape like the Hochtaunuskreis. And she is afraid for her foals. The Icelandic horses do not live in the stable, but outside, around the clock. This is where the young are born. “If things continue like this, there will soon be no more natural foals on the pasture,” says Röseler. Wolves smell the blood of a birth miles away.
