British politician, veterinarian and animal activist Neil Hudson expressed the opinion that children’s films instill in society the idea that cropping dogs’ ears is acceptable, clarifying that the appearance of ears, as in Disney cartoons, is often the result of cropping.

Bild reports this.

Under UK animal welfare laws, it is illegal to import dogs with cropped ears into the country, however, some celebrities are getting around this ban by purchasing such animals abroad and bringing them into the UK secretly.

Hudson complained that animated films like “Up” and “DC League of Super Pets” do not expose audiences to the truth about the abuse of cropped ear dogs, which he says suffer from horrific injuries. He noted that close observation of the dogs in the film Up shows that many of them were docked, making such images common and acceptable in the eyes of the public, which is wrong.

Note that the docking process involves surgically shortening the ears or tail of dogs, and despite the use of anesthesia, animals experience severe pain after the procedure.

Dog ear cropping is a practice historically used to prevent injury in working dogs and to enhance certain breed traits. It is believed to help prevent ear diseases and improve hearing, but these claims are often disputed and criticized as cruel and unnecessary.
