Anja Rützel’s column: Along the royal procession route

by time news

Ms. Rützel, who made you angry this week?

Absolutely nobody. Even the toughest of nerves from our extensive range of problem bears in this small, astonished special social column wouldn’t have managed to spoil my mood last week, because I spent it in London at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. And of course that was as exciting for me as an old royalist as a Take That concert and “The Passion” together.

Did you also see Elizabeth II in person?

Actually yes, and I still can’t really believe it. Because I got up at nighttime, I had a very good seat along the royal procession route to the ceremonial event Trooping the Color on Thursday, and Prince William, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, the Duchesses Camilla and Catherine and the three of them rode or drove Cambridge kids in close range past me. After that, using all my meandering skills, I made my way through the crowd so far in front of Buckingham Palace that I was actually able to see the Queen during her brief balcony appearance. I’m still emotionally drained from all of this. And that’s why I’m just a little angry that I’m feeling the same way as Kim Kardashian: We both would have loved to have tickets for the big concert tonight in the garden of Buckingham Palace, and we both tried very hard – but both in vain.

Completely incomprehensible, in both cases.

I agree. At least I haven’t whined publicly about it — at least until just now — like Kim’s PR team. They probably couldn’t quite believe that the American version of royalty was worth nothing to the original British royals.

In your royal frenzy, did you have time to follow the verdict in the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial?

I would have gladly done without it, so as not to soil my elated mood with the memory of the dreary reality, but of course I couldn’t avoid it. So Johnny Depp was officially right, the jury dismissed Amber Heard’s sexual abuse allegations and found it proven that she lied. At the same time, however, Depp also has to pay a fine because his lawyer defamed Heard when he claimed that her allegations of abuse were fabricated. I just can’t bring these two points into a logical relationship.

In any case, an Insta comment by Gwyneth Paltrow was extremely emotional. She commented on a photo Ethan Hawke posted to mark the 33rd anniversary of Dead Poets Society, with a rather raunchy undertone.

You could say so. Pictured is young Ethan with his castmates, most of them quite young as well. Hawke captioned it with a phrase that references the scene in the movie where he climbs onto his school desk, reminding us of the importance of seeing things from a different perspective. Paltrow wrote below: “Best movie EVER. I wish I’d made out with more of you guys than I have.” And Hawke completed the cringe-fest by returning her comment with, “We all wish the same thing.” Maybe there’s something else. The two have only worked together once on a film so far, and that was in the 1998 remake of Great Expectations. At the time, the two were playing a couple, but both were otherwise committed in real life: Paltrow was dating Ben Affleck, and Hawke was already engaged to Uma Thurman. It’s always amazing what pool of cuddle partners these famous people can draw from. That’s not really fair.

What does Helene Fischer actually do?

As is almost always the case, you don’t know for sure. But I have a hunch she’s not invited to the party at Buckingham Palace either. I feel you, Helene.
