Former BBC presenter Anne Robinson, 80, has confirmed her decision to move from the Cotswolds to London after more than four decades in the area, citing concerns about aging alone and the need for proximity to her daughter, Emma Wilson. The 80-year-old, best known for hosting The Weakest Link and Countdown, revealed the move in multiple statements, emphasizing her desire to avoid becoming a burden to her family as she ages.

Robinson told The Times, reflecting on leaving her Grade II-listed converted barn in Hatherop, which she purchased in 1988. The property, which she renovated over two years in the late 2000s, is now listed for £4.5m. Robinson also owns residences in New York’s Fifth Avenue and the Hamptons, but this marks her first permanent relocation to London in decades.

Robinson has taken steps to manage her £50m fortune, which she has distributed among family members to mitigate inheritance tax liabilities. I’ve given it all away – I don’t want the taxman to have it,
she told Saga, though she admitted she can’t think there’s anything I really want except my good health and the family happiness.
Gifts made within seven years of death are subject to taxation, with “taper relief” reducing the rate for gifts given more than three years prior. Robinson’s move to London, she said, allows her to “legislate” for her future by being closer to her daughter, who will teach her to navigate the Tube.

she said, adding plans to visit the Tate and attend plays with her daughter.

Robinson’s 40-year tenure in the Cotswolds included a period of personal upheaval, including her 2007 divorce from husband John Penrose. She later installed a I Hate My Husband Suite
in her barn, according to The Independent. While she no longer drives due to worsening eyesight, she emphasized her commitment to fitness, citing regular runs, weights, and Pilates.
