She says she is the victim of “unfounded accusations”. MEP Anne-Sophie Pelletier, excluded on Monday by the delegation of European elected officials from France Insoumise (LFI) for harassment, announced in a press release on Friday to file a complaint for aggravated defamation and denounce the party’s “anti-democratic practices”.

The elected official, who learned “from reading the LFI press release” the reasons for her exclusion, “firmly contests the serious accusations made against her”, it is indicated in the press release broadcast on X.

A complaint for aggravated public defamation with the creation of a civil party will be filed in the coming days at the Paris court, said his lawyer, Sabrina Goldman.

“Harassing, inappropriate and aggressive” behavior

The delegation of rebellious MEPs announced on Monday to exclude Anne-Sophie Pelletier due to “harassing, inappropriate and aggressive behavior” towards thirteen parliamentary assistants since 2019.

Recalling that she was “totally cleared by the presidency of the European Parliament” on November 16, 2021 “after an investigation by the institution’s anti-harassment committee”, Anne-Sophie Pelletier “denounces the anti-democratic practices of France Insoumise”.

She deplores the absence of “a contradictory debate which would have allowed her to respond to the unfounded accusations of which she is once again the victim”. “Anne-Sophie Pelletier believes that her ouster is linked to her choice to vote in favor of the European Parliament resolution of October 19 aimed at condemning Hamas after the October 7 attack against Israel, to which LFI was opposed,” specifies the press release.

A situation similar to that of Raquel Garrido?

“The MEP had already expressed her disagreement with the political line of France Insoumise on several occasions and had been pressured to comply with voting instructions without questioning them,” it is added.

Anne-Sophie Pelletier sees similarities between her situation and that of the LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Raquel Garrido, sanctioned in October by her group in the National Assembly.

He was accused of having harmed “the good collective functioning of the parliamentary group” by “the dissemination of false information in the press” or “the questioning and ad hominem denigration of several members of the group”.

Raquel Garrido was also accused of having “humiliated collaborators” in the Assembly. The MP claims to have been sanctioned for having expressed her disagreement with “the way in which La France insoumise has been run for a year”.
