More than half of the films in the international film festival’s competition category are made by debutante directors. This category includes films from eleven countries including Turkey, Iran, Israel, Bolivia, Vietnam and four Indian films. The Malayalam films in this category are Mahesh Narayanan’s directorial Annoit and Lijojos Pellissery’s Nanpakal Neerath Mayakkum. Other Indian films in the competition category are A Place of Our Own by Ektara Collective and Manipuri director Romi Maithei’s Our Home.

The eight films to be screened in the competition category are made by debutante directors. Hoopo by Iranian director Mehdi Hassan Fari, Alam directed by Firaz Khori, Russian film Convenience Store by Michael Borodin, Bolivian film Utama, Vietnam film Memoryland, Tug of War directed by Amil Shivji, Brazilian film Cordially Yours, A Place of Our Own by Ektara Collective. These are the debut films in the competition category. The competition category has the India premiere of nine films and the world premiere of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerath Mayakkum.

Aidan Hegwal’s film Concerned Citizen, which won nominations at the Berlin, Jerusalem and Rio de Janeiro festivals, is also in the competition category. Turkish screenwriter and director Taifun Pirselimoglu’s film Kerr will also be screened in the competition section.
