KBS’s star announcer Hwang Jung-min is leaving the company after 31 years with the company.

According to KBS and other sources on the 26th, announcer Hwang will be taking special honorary retirement on the 31st. It is known that he put his name on KBS’s second special honorary retirement/voluntary retirement application that was held until the 20th.

In order to overcome the management crisis caused by the separate collection of license fees, KBS first accepted applications for special honorary retirement for employees with over 20 years of service and voluntary retirement for employees with over 1 year of service in February. At that time, 87 people left the company. It is reported that about 30 people applied for the second round of special honorary retirement and voluntary retirement that was recently held.

Announcer Hwang joined KBS in 1993 as the 19th open recruitment announcer. He met viewers as a news anchor and also hosted ‘Challenge Earth Exploration Team’ and ‘VJ Special Forces’. He was also active as a DJ for KBS Cool FM’s ‘Hwang Jung-min’s FM March’ (1998~2017) and ‘Hwang Jung-min’s Music Show’ (2020~). ‘Hwang Jung-min’s Music Show’ will be discontinued after its last broadcast on September 1st.

This list of special honorary retirees also includes announcer Lee Kwang-yong, who was active as a KBS sports caster.

This announcer joined KBS in 2003 as the 29th public announcer. He became known as a sportscaster following announcers Choi Seung-don and Lee Jae-hoo. He is evaluated as a stable commentator based on his knowledge of sports regardless of the event, such as soccer or baseball. He also showed his presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
