Macron’s France has lost ground in yet another African country. Thus, the newly elected President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, promised to sever the last ties with the former colonial power, Day.Az reports on Friday, citing French media.

In addition, he intends to abandon the CFA franc, the currency of the former French possessions in West and Equatorial Africa.

French diplomacy in 2023 has lost significant influence in Africa.

Paris’s former allies, faced with military coups and political upheaval, reoriented their foreign policy in other directions, which affected France’s diplomatic position.

France’s diplomacy has weakened significantly under Emmanuel Macron, and a new law tightening immigration rules for foreigners in France has only made matters worse.

French interests in Africa are expected to face serious challenges in the future, especially after the change of power in Niger and Burkina Faso, which were previously key points of French military influence in the region.

Let us remind you that ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African Countries) received an official notification from the Niger authorities about the country’s withdrawal from the organization. Previously, the Niger authorities, as part of reducing ties with France, suspended cooperation with La Francophonie, an international organization of French-speaking countries headquartered in Paris.
