It has been confirmed that a drunk man in his 60s passed through the guard post of the Gyeonggi Army unit and wandered around the unit for about 20 minutes. There are concerns that the guard post was lax as he passed through it even though a guard was on guard duty at the time.

According to military authorities on the 15th, a man in his 60s entered the army base in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, without permission, at around 10:00 PM on the 9th. At the time, a soldier was on guard duty at the guard post, but the man reportedly entered the base without any particular restrictions.

The man was reportedly drunk at the time, and the unit reportedly became aware of the trespassing when the man tried to leave the unit.

A military official said, “As a result of the joint military and police investigation, there was no suspicion of espionage,” and “He entered the unit through the vehicle barrier of the military unit guard post while intoxicated.”

The military is investigating the negligence of guard duty by the guard post worker. Depending on the results, strict disciplinary action will be taken against the worker.

There have been frequent instances where military units failed to recognize that civilians were trespassing.

Most recently, on October 11th of last year, at the Marine Corps Training Center in Buk-gu, Pohang, a man in his 70s, Mr. A, entered the unit with the reservist trainees through the side door next to the training center in a vehicle.

Person A was reported to have seen a line of vehicles entering the unit while trying to go to the airport and entered the unit with them. Person A was arrested by guards after being caught trespassing during the process of verifying his identity while trying to exit through the unit entrance.
