Summary of the article

Precisely because vitamin D3 also has a beneficial effect on other infectious diseases, it is good to look at this study, along with the many others with similar results.

The convincing Israeli investigation

We have previously written about how beneficial the effect of vitamin D3 is in ensuring that you become less seriously ill from Covid-19 and have a smaller chance of dying. These are several articles on this site on this subject.

I found this study among patients in an Israeli hospital strong and convincing and then copied it. Especially since this concerned the D3 values, which were measured before they got Covid-19.

These were the results of the study among their patients, where:

  • 57% of those with the lowest values of D fell into the “severe” and “critical” patient category. In those with higher D3 values, it was less than 10%.
  • 26% of those with the lowest levels of D died in hospital. In those with higher D values it was 3%.
  • Of those with mild symptoms, more than 80% had adequate or higher D levels. Of those defined as “severe” or “critical” that was 8%.

The new research

A few days ago, a new study on this topic came out. It concerned research in two Indonesian hospitals of late 2021 and the results are similar to those in Israel. Vitamin D levels were measured at the time of admission. Severe patients on admission were excluded from the study. There, too, it is reported that the severity of Covid-19 shows a clear relationship with the vitamin D level that people had at the time of admission.

Now this is a study with slightly fewer respondents than the Israeli study, but it is one more confirmation of the positive effect of vitamin D.

On this site all surveys are kept up to date worldwide and the quality is assessed. And if that is sufficient, it will be included in the overviews. This is the overview of the 109 studieswhich were considered to be of sufficient quality:

It is clear that the vitamin D content is recognized as positive on all points in ensuring that people become less ill from Covid-19. In IC admission it scores 50%. So put in a popular way: someone who has a sufficient vitamin D level is twice as small as someone with a significant vitamin D deficiency to end up in an ICU with Covid-19.

If you are interested in the subject and the 109 studies that form the basis of this comprehensive overview, then go to this page and scroll down. It provides a wealth of information.

And realize that the positive effect of vitamin D3 was also known for other infectious diseases. This was also reported by two doctors on an episode of my two-year podcast.
