Bulgaria defeated Spain 3:0 (25:18, 25:17, 25:21) in their last match of the group stage of the European Volleyball Under-20 Championship, which is being held in Greece and Serbia
With the success, the team led by Miroslav Zhivkov finished in the first position and awaits the outcome in the other stream
For the second time, a match of ours in Greece was marked by an electric shock. The one against Italy saw the lights go out after we went 1-0 up and then went 1-3 down – our only loss of the tournament.
Now Bulgaria started and continued convincingly. In the first set, we led 5:2 and did not allow ourselves to be worried at all. Our lead was only increasing. Our longest streak was four points at the end of the half. After her we were leading with 22:15 and everything was clear. By the end of the game, we exchanged short bursts of two points each, but the situation was completely in our favor.
With the end of the part came the electric shock. Bulgaria and Spain had to wait for about half an hour to continue the last match of the group. In a very short moment of the game “La Furia” took the lead – 5:4. This turned out to be the only Spanish advance in the game. A series of four Bulgarian points was extremely important for its outcome. Our lead with 13:9 gave a serious claim that we would lead with 2: 0. When the score became 19: 6, we made two series of three points and ended the part with 25: 17. The bad memory of the blackout with Italy was forgotten.
In the third game, Spain tried to show its European face for the last time. Our opponent led us with 3:1, reached the more convincing 7:4, but our team equalized 8:8. Ours allowed no more intrigue. Two three-point runs pushed our lead to 19:13. It was clearly only a matter of time before we won the group with six wins and just one loss. The match ended with the convincing 25:21.
Of utmost importance for the entire tournament so far was the entry into the staff of Vladimir Nikolov. The legend is Zhivkov’s assistant and with his vast experience helped the development of our team.
