Major General Valery Muminyanov, who worked in the Defense Ministry’s Resources Department, helped organize state orders for private companies that supplied army uniforms. He received a bribe of more than 20 million rubles (approximately 200,000 euros) from companies for helping to conclude contracts, the Russian Investigative Committee said, adding.

The investigation revealed that Muminyanov and his family members own numerous real estate properties in Moscow and Voronezh worth more than 120 million rubles, the committee said, noting that the legality of these properties had been verified.

If convicted, Muminyanov faces up to 15 years in prison.

At least ten military personnel have been detained in Russia since April, which could testify to a purge in the corrupt leadership of the armed forces.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin replaced the defense minister in May with Andrei Belousov, an economist by training, replacing Sergei Shoigu.

The Ministry of Defense is regularly rocked by corruption scandals, which have received increased attention since Russia’s repeated invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, former Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Popov was arrested on charges of fraud in connection with the construction of an army-themed amusement park near Moscow.
