Provocative behavior was demonstrated towards Azerbaijan at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
As reported by Day.Az, during the live broadcast of the opening ceremony on the French TV channel “France 2”, the presenters made provocative statements regarding Azerbaijani athletes.
Thus, when the Armenian delegation was parading, one of the TV channel’s hosts declared “friendship with the Armenians”, that “Armenia is a country historically close to the hearts of the French”. When the Azerbaijani team was parading, the host voiced provocative thoughts, presenting our country as “a Caucasian republic in conflict with Armenia over a territorial issue”.
These biased statements caused justifiable discontent in Azerbaijan.
The live broadcast on the French TV channel “France 2” became a platform for biased statements. These actions violate the basic principle of the Olympic Games – the principle of neutrality and irrelevance to political and geopolitical issues.
Such manifestations of bias and political intervention at international sporting events once again raise questions about France’s reputation as an organiser of global events and its willingness to uphold the principles of fairness and neutrality.
In response to this incident, one can expect an expression of an official position from Baku.
