The solemn ceremony of this “Declaration of Cultural Interest” took place on Monday in the Legislative Assembly of Buenos Aires, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, ambassadors accredited to Argentina, diplomats, writers who participated in this collective work and journalists.

The ceremony, organized as part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Throne Day, was an opportunity to honor Moroccan culture and salute the creativity of the fifty Argentinian writers and poets who participated in this book entitled “Dialogues between Morocco and Argentina”, with the sole objective of strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.

Thus, the regional deputy Cecilia Ferrero indicated that the anthology written by the members of the association of “Argentine Poets Friends of Morocco” (PAAM) is “a testimony of fraternity between our countries, a fraternity called to be consolidated through art and to transcend time.”

She noted that the anthology brings together texts in verse and prose “that allow us to travel through geographical or cultural sites in the heart of Morocco: the large and small souks, ceremonies, such as tea or henna, the oldest professions, such as that of the scribe, and ancient peoples such as the men of the desert or the women of the Atlas.”

For her part, the academic and poet Mariela Palermo, who coordinated and corrected this collective work, referred to the representativeness of all the provinces of Argentina in this anthology, emphasizing that the 50 authors come from almost the entire Argentine geography.

They are “writers with a great trajectory, of different ages and from all the territories of Argentina”, each telling a story that brings the reader closer to Moroccan culture, its people, its landscapes and its traditions, she said.

The Moroccan ambassador to Argentina, Fares Yassir, welcomed the “Declaration of Cultural Interest” of Buenos Aires granted to a new book on Morocco, after the first two anthologies which obtained this privilege in June 2023.

The Moroccan diplomat did not fail to thank the Legislative Assembly of Buenos Aires which, through this initiative, also pays a warm tribute to the 90 members of PAAM, around forty of whom participated in the first two anthologies on the Kingdom.

Fares Yassir also highlighted the role of “cultural diplomacy” which helps build bridges between the two sides of the Atlantic and smooth relations between the Moroccan and Argentine peoples.

This third anthology of PAAM, a literary project led by the Moroccan embassy in Argentina, offers the reader texts and poems inspired by a dozen paintings by Moroccan painters whose objective is to “reduce the distances” between two countries and two cultures separated by an ocean.

In the book’s prologue, the Moroccan ambassador spoke of a kind of “conversation” between two cultures, which “not only breaks down the barriers of language and nationalities, but brings together two peoples who are different in terms of geography, culture and traditions (…). It is a call to strengthen the mutual knowledge that already exists between Morocco and Argentina.”
