“The Kingdom has strengthened its efforts to launch a new generation anti-corruption strategy that builds on achievements, fills gaps and addresses challenges, capitalizing on the progress made at the legislative, institutional and procedural levels,” said Mr. Rachdi, who was speaking at the 10th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) which is being held in Atlanta from December 11 to 15.
He noted that a new dynamic has been given to these efforts, particularly after the constitutionalization of the Authority and the broadening of its prerogatives and its scope of intervention with a view to increasing its effectiveness, and this in line with the High Royal Guidelines based on the principles of institutional complementarity and the interconnection of roles and responsibilities between all the authorities and bodies concerned.
Noting that Morocco is convinced of the need to respect all international conventions and agreements, particularly those relating to the fight against corruption, Mr. Rachdi noted that thanks to this commitment, the fight against corruption is now established as a national priority to achieve solid and inclusive development.
He further stressed the importance of the multidimensional approach of public policies in the fight against corruption, adding that the prevention of this phenomenon is at the heart of this “irreversible” global strategy.
Furthermore, the speaker stressed the importance of supporting the draft resolution prepared and presented by Morocco on the “Follow-up to the Marrakech Declaration on the Prevention of Corruption”.
This, he said, is a mechanism to support international and regional engagement in efforts in this area, with the aim of promoting integrated development, sustainability, peace and stability.
Adopted in 2011, the Marrakech Declaration is, it should be remembered, the foundation of the importance of prevention in the system of the fight against corruption.
In addition to the President of the National Authority for Integrity, Prevention and the Fight against Corruption, the Moroccan delegation to this UN conclave is composed in particular of the Ambassador Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Vienna, Azzeddine Farhane, the Governor, Director of Political Affairs at the Ministry of the Interior, Youssef Ennahi, and the Inspector General of Finance, Mohamed Manchoud, as well as representatives of various ministerial departments and public and private institutions.
