New Delhi: Amid the growing threat of drones, the Indian Army’s infantry unit has received indigenous anti-drone guns and soon the army will also get anti-drone guns with a longer range. It has been made by an indigenous startup. These guns have been supplied to an army unit about four months ago. Some larger anti-drone systems have also been made with this and contracts have been signed with the Army and the Air Force and its delivery will begin in November.‘Pair of anti-drone gun and detector’
The whole world is talking about drones and anti-drones these days, whether it is the war between Russia and Ukraine or the war between Israel and Hamas. Drones are being used extensively. Armies around the world are cautious about the use of drones. In India too, work is going on continuously on anti-drone systems and many start-ups are working on it. Big Bang Boom Solutions has supplied anti-drone guns to the army. Start-up Vice President Gaurav Sharma said that anti-drone is a pair of gun and detector. The detector can detect any drone within a radius of four kilometers in 360 degrees. It is connected to a tablet and if any drone comes within its range, it will ring an alarm.

How does it work?
The detector is a passive system, meaning it will not be known where it is installed. Therefore, it can be kept on continuously. As soon as the direction of the drone is detected through the detector, the anti-drone gun has to be pointed in that direction and its button has to be pressed. A 45-degree beam comes out of the gun which goes ahead and surrounds the drone like a net and the drone becomes blind. The drone does not have any signal and it gets jammed. It has different types of frequencies to counter different types of drones. This gun runs on battery which can be charged just like a mobile. A fully charged battery works for 8 hours. If connected directly to the power point, it can be used continuously. A site can also be installed on it.

It has been designed for infantry soldiers so that they can carry it to forward posts. In many places, army posts are at a height of 15 thousand to 18 thousand feet. The gun weighs 4 kg and the detector weighs about 9 kg. The range of the gun is 2 km.

The ministry gives help to make the prototype
So that indigenous companies can meet the needs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, the Defense Ministry provides funds to startups to make prototypes under the iDEX program. If a startup has developed something according to the needs of the armies, the ministry helps in making the prototype and then that product is taken for the armies. At present, the threat of drones has increased all over the world and work is continuously being done on anti-drone systems. The army has also increased anti-drone systems in the border areas.
