Anti-Money Laundering Committee holds meeting at Central Bank headquarters

The National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing held a meeting on Thursday at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli, headed by the bank’s acting governor, Abdel Fattah Abdel Ghaffar, and attended by all members of the committee.

The meeting discussed several files related to the committee’s work, including its future strategy, which includes several projects to develop the competencies of workers in the financial sectors and other relevant sectors, such as the insurance and real estate brokerage sector, contract editors, and precious metals traders.

The meeting addressed the mechanism for developing the infrastructure related to specialized technologies, in addition to the committee’s role in supporting legislative frameworks that would ensure the effectiveness of efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, and enhance means of communication between all concerned parties.

During the meeting, the acting governor stressed the importance of the committee continuing its work, in accordance with the procedures in place, pointing out the need to follow up on technical support for all concerned parties in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, by updating data according to the systems and operational strength and following up on them continuously.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of coordination and cooperation between the concerned parties to achieve the common strategic goals in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, the most important of which are financial institutions represented by compliance units that must operate in accordance with international standards.

The attendees stressed their support for the efforts of the Central Bank of Libya in keeping pace with the latest developments on the regional and international scene in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
