LE SCAN SPORT – Environmental activists from “Just Stop Oil” made a remarkable appearance on the third day of the London Grand Slam.
It’s not just rain that regularly interrupts matches at Wimbledon this year. Activists spread orange glitter on court 18 during a Dimitrov-Shimabukoro men’s singles match. Two ‘Just Stop Oil’ protesters ran onto the court and spilled the substance before one of them sat cross-legged on the grass. Security personnel quickly evacuated the individual who did not resist. Ground staff also swept up the chaff from the court and there was no damage. Security had been tightened for the grass-court Grand Slam, one of the jewels of Britain’s sporting summer, after a series of protests at high-profile events in Britain. In vain.
The environmental group disrupted the Ashes’ second cricket Test at Lord’s last week by attempting to spray orange powder on the wicket. They also intervened in this year’s Rugby Premiership final and World Snooker Championship in Sheffield, where they sprinkled orange powder on a table.

This year’s Grand National horse race was also disrupted after animal rights activists tied themselves to the fences.
