The students agitating against the quota ended their program by holding a press conference in the capital’s Shahbagh on Friday (July 12) afternoon. They said that the press conference will be held tomorrow Saturday (13 July) at 6 pm in front of the central library.
Besides, the agitators also said that they will hold an online meeting with the coordinators of the movement of various educational institutions on Saturday to decide the outline of the next program.
Students agitating for quota reforms in government jobs came to Shahbagh area of the capital on Friday around 5:20 pm. The program was supposed to start at 4 pm, but after about an hour and a half they took up their position at Shahbagh.
He left Shahbagh at 6.20 pm after performing the one-hour stay program at Shahbagh. At this time, the law and order forces were seen to be on high alert. Dhaka University students along with students from other educational institutions also participated in this program.
Around 5 pm, a procession was taken out in front of the Dhaka University Library under the banner of ‘Anti-discrimination student movement’. From there angry students came to Shahbagh intersection.
Students have been protesting for a few days demanding reform of quota in government jobs. When the agitation spread across the country, unpleasant incidents took place with law and order forces in different parts of the country. In protest, they planned a protest march and rally on Friday.
The agitators held the ‘Bangla Blockade’ program across the country for the fourth day on Thursday.
Since July 1, a continuous movement has been going on demanding quota reforms. The movement started with a four-point demand, including the reinstatement of the 2018 quota cancellation circular But, from July 7, they are talking about a single demand.
