Muqtada Sadr, Iraq‘s spiritual leader, has spoken out in support of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli movements at US universities, calling for an end to police pressure on them.
This was reported by the Telegram channel “Today in Israel”.
According to him, what demonstrators are doing at American universities are manifestations of “voices of peace and freedom”, and “repression” is being used against them.
“We call for an end to the repression of voices advocating peace and freedom. The voice of American universities demanding an end to Zionist terrorism,” Sadr said.
Muqtada Sadr famously led a militia that actively opposed American forces after the 2003 US-led invasion that toppled dictator Saddam Hussein. He maintains a loyal following among millions of his country’s Shiites and exerts significant influence on political processes in Iraq.
Student protests against Israel’s war in Gaza have continued to spread throughout the United States, especially after the arrest of more than 100 demonstrators at Columbia University last week.
Earlier, Cursor wrote that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken sharply criticized the pro-Palestinian demonstrations taking place at US universities. He condemned the neglect of Hamas terrorists’ participation in military operations and invited protesters to direct their outrage against the terrorist organization.
In addition, Cursor has already reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed concern about the increase in anti-Semitic scandals at US universities, noting that there are calls for the destruction of Israel.
