The French prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into manifestations of racism during the group stage match of the Olympic football tournament between the national teams of Paraguay and Israel.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was reported by the AFP agency.
The match between the Paraguayans and the Israelis took place on July 27 and ended with a victory for the Israeli team with a score of 4:2.
According to the source, some fans made anti-Semitic gestures. People dressed in black, their faces hidden behind masks, chanted anti-Israeli slogans related to the situation in the Gaza Strip. The Games’ organizing committee condemned such actions.
The situation in the Middle East has sharply deteriorated since the penetration of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, accompanied by the murder of residents of border settlements and the seizure of more than 240 hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation in Gaza with the aim of destroying Hamas military and political structures and freeing all those kidnapped.
