The manager of the Pischa restaurant in the Swiss ski resort of Davos has been fined for refusing to rent ski equipment to Jewish tourists.

It is known that in February 2024, the newspaper 20minuten published a photo of a notice posted in the Pischa restaurant. It stated that due to repeated incidents, such as the theft of a sled, winter sports equipment rentals would no longer be available to Jews. The ban included sleds, hoverboards and snowshoes, and the text was duplicated in Hebrew.

It is noted that in recent years the Swiss city of Davos has become a popular resort among Haredi Israelis. In their comments to the newspaper 20minuten, representatives of the restaurant said that the staff were tired of the daily problems with Jewish tourists leaving sleds on the slopes or not returning the equipment in proper condition.

After the media scandal over the incident, the restaurant manager apologized and reversed his policy. The Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities sued him, but before that, the police had already launched an investigation. As a result, the restaurant manager was found guilty of “discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity or religion” and sentenced to a fine.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that in recent years, the issues of anti-Semitism at elite universities have been actively discussed, and perhaps the situation at some of them is more critical than previously thought. Last week, the Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance published a report based on the testimonies of 50 current and former Jewish students and faculty.
