Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar said that the use of antibiotics in animals should be controlled to ensure safe food for humans. Human food is closely related to animal food. Therefore, the use of antibiotics in animals should be controlled to ensure safe food for humans.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the seminar titled ‘What to do to increase livestock vaccine production’ at the Livestock Research Institute (LRI) conference hall on Monday (September 23) morning.
The adviser said that the contribution of livestock to the GDP is immense in Bangladesh’s food security, balanced nutrition, solving the problem of unemployment and creating self-employment, empowering women, increasing the fertility of agricultural land, building a talented nation and reducing foreign import dependence. Animal feed production, processing and distribution processes are different and complex than other sectors. If this process is not developed in a coordinated way, the public health risk will increase a lot.
Calling on talented scientists of the country to come forward to develop vaccines, the adviser said that vaccines are directly related to the livelihood of marginal farmers.
He emphasized on taking measures to provide vaccines or vaccinations to prevent diseases from attacking livestock.
He also said that if the scientists of our country are self-sufficient in making vaccines, on the one hand, the dependence on foreign countries will be reduced and on the other hand, the valuable foreign currency of the country will be saved. Livestock sector will be further developed and prosperous with the knowledge gained by scientists.
Emphasizing the formation of a research pool to make LRI an efficient institution, the advisor said that there is a need to give incentives to all the officers and employees who work day and night. We want to increase LRI’s vaccine production by at least three times.
